Get to Know Me Monday #2

Hello. Last week I shared my professional background of educational and work experience. Today I’m going to share some things about me personally.

Community Service. I joined the Lancaster Rotary Club in 1991. Rotary’s Motto is Service Above Self. Rotary does so many great things, which could be an entire blog in itself, but building friendships and community service are what keeps me involved.  I am a Past President of the Lancaster Rotary Club and have also served on various other boards in the community, many of which I’ve held the office of President or Treasurer. When I join a nonprofit board, it is for a cause I am passionate about.

Early in my career, I served on the board of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Fairfield County. It is an organization that I continue to support because of the impact it has on our youth. Through the years, as my children participated in activities, I became an active member (and usually Treasurer) of the various booster groups, Lancaster Band Boosters, LHS Choir Boosters, LHS Drama Boosters, LHS Academic Boosters, and even Sanderson PTO. I’ve also served on the board of several nonprofits in our community, including Harcum House, Fairfield Community Health Center, Estate Planning Council of Central Ohio, and the Fairfield County Foundation. Currently, I have recently joined the board of the Fairfield Medical Center Foundation, as well as continue to serve on the Investment Committees of the Lancaster Band Boosters and the Fairfield County Foundation. I’m also an active member and Elder of the Lancaster First Presbyterian Church.

Downtown Lancaster. My office is in downtown Lancaster, in the Fairfield Federal Savings & Loan building. I’m on the 3rd floor (many don’t realize there even is a 3rd floor). When you look above the bandstand outside and see the three dormer windows above it, that is my office! I love being in downtown Lancaster; there are so many locally owned businesses, and restaurants. Whether I’m getting an iced tea at L-City (yes, I am not a coffee drinker) or walking downtown to do an errand or pickup up lunch, I frequently see someone I know. So many activities happen throughout the year downtown; it is a wonderful place to be located and really feel a part of this community.

Family. I’ve been married for 31 years to Eric Hubbard. I have two adult children that I’m extremely proud of. Olivia graduated from University of Kentucky and is currently a Moderate -Severe Disabilities teacher in Lexington, KY. Clark received his Bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University and Masters’ degrees from University of Michigan in Music Performance and Chamber Music. He is currently the Assistant Athletic Band Director at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. When you see me cheering for Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Michigan in football, basketball, and other sports, you know why. Our family also includes two cats and a beagle!

Singing. When I’m not working or spending time with family, I enjoy singing. I’ve been singing with the Lancaster Community Chorus the past several years. I’m also in the Omnis Choir at First Presbyterian Church.

Next week, I’ll be talking about College Planning! If you have specific questions you’d like me to address, please let me know.
